For TV - its more of a numbers game - and getting your tracks in the networks or shows that pay great royalties (over time this can add up), as there is usually very little sync involved. $5k is a decent sync but it goes much higher than that, for high end boutique library & custom music. You don't want to end up at the bottom of the pile in a massive library, so it's about raising your production so its undeniably good - and then getting it in the right hands. The key ingredients being really high quality, syncable music, and then finding the right publisher(s) - which can take some time. It can be extremely lucrative, but difficult to find your flow - and I won't lie - most people who attempt don't make much money (as is true with many things in life). I do sync full time (trailers mostly and a little TV). Should I bother with entering the industry this way at all? It's really hard to tell if any effort I'd make would be worthwhile as I can't find much info around. Does anyone have any experience with these classes? I'm pretty skeptical, but I also can't find that many free resources to begin with. I've come across a couple of successful sync artists on social media that seem to be promoting classes/training to get into the sync world. Most of the resources I've found seem to have something sketchy underneath. I've tried to do some research on sync licensing and to be honest it seems like there's not much helpful information around. I was pretty intrigued by this as A) I'm a musician at heart (sound editing is just my day job) and B) I already work in a somewhat pretty similar part of the industry. After doing some research, I've read that supposedly a lot of these tracks can pay around $5000 for a placement in a commercial. Most of the time, it's a pretty unknown artist that was pulled from a music library. We work with some pretty big brands and over the past year I've started to pay attention to the music tracks we work with. I'm a sound editor for commercials at an ad agency.
